Abandonment

I have been working on this project for a long time, doing little bits and pieces of it over a period of a few days. It was very fun to make and I am planning on continuing this image.

I used Terragen to make the textures on each planet.
To do all the other parts of the image and to bring it all together, I used Photoshop.

Constructive criticism please!


-----Here is a small explanation/story to go along with this image. I feel that it has a great effect on the impact of the image and everyone should read this to get a better Idea of what Abandonment is really about.

Abandonment

It is the year 2197 and humans have finally spread throughout the universe, never to die out.

But one colony of humans on the planet Xaves is in imminent danger.

The comet Ceries XII is on a collision course with the new colony, and all the humans are in grave danger.

As the colonists load the evacuation shuttles, they look up into the sky and see a massive fireball, the comet Ceries XII, aimed directly at their new home.

Some people are crying; having to leave their planet after living there for so many years is a crushing blow to many of the first colonists.

The young pilots newly dressed in their flight uniforms look on nervously, wondering how they can possibly evacuate everyone from the planet in time, wondering if even the shuttles will be able to escape.

The truth is, there are too many people to evacuate and many will be left behind on Xaves. The ones that have chosen not to leave are gathering into large, underground bunkers in hopes of surviving the impact.


As the shuttles lift off the planet one by one, the passengers get one last view of Xaves and its three moons, as well as the fiery comet that is about to destroy everything that they once called home.
